Behaviour Policy

1. Purpose

Broad Town Village Hall is a community facility intended to be a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for all users. This Behaviour Policy sets out the standards of conduct expected of everyone using the hall, including hirers, guests, volunteers, staff, and committee members.

 

2. Scope

This policy applies to:

  • All individuals attending events or activities at the Village Hall

  • Hirers and their guests

  • Volunteers, staff, and committee members

  • Children and young people, under the supervision of responsible adults

 

3. Expected Standards of Behaviour

All users of Broad Town Village Hall are expected to:

  • Treat others with respect, dignity, and courtesy

  • Behave in a way that does not cause harm, distress, or offence to others

  • Follow all reasonable instructions given by Hall representatives

  • Use the facilities responsibly and with care

  • Comply with all health and safety requirements

 

4. Unacceptable Behaviour

The following behaviours will not be tolerated:

  • Verbal abuse, threatening language, harassment, or intimidation

  • Physical violence or aggressive behaviour

  • Discrimination or harassment on the basis of age, disability, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or any other protected characteristic

  • Excessive noise or disorderly behaviour that disturbs others or nearby residents

  • Misuse, damage, or theft of property

  • Being under the influence of illegal drugs

  • Consumption of alcohol without appropriate permission or licensing

 

5. Children and Young People

  • Children and young people must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times unless part of an organised activity with appropriate supervision

  • Behaviour that puts themselves or others at risk will not be permitted

 

6. Health, Safety, and Welfare

  • Fire exits must be kept clear at all times

  • Smoking and vaping are not permitted inside the building

  • Any accidents, incidents, or hazards must be reported immediately to a committee member or responsible person

 

7. Dealing with Unacceptable Behaviour

If unacceptable behaviour occurs:

  1. An informal warning may be given, requesting that the behaviour stops

  2. If the behaviour continues, the individual(s) may be asked to leave the premises

  3. Serious incidents may result in the event being terminated

  4. The Management Committee may refuse future bookings or take appropriate further action if necessary

 

8. Responsibility of Hirers

Hirers are responsible for:

  • Ensuring their guests are aware of and comply with this Behaviour Policy

  • Any damage, loss, or additional costs arising from misuse of the hall

  • Ensuring activities are conducted safely and lawfully

 

9. Review of Policy

This policy will be reviewed regularly by the Broad Town Village Hall Management Committee and updated as required.
